SINGAPORE — Consumers will be able to compare prices on more grocery items thanks to the addition of some of online grocer RedMart’s inventory to the Price Kaki mobile app.
Starting Thursday, April 21, the supermarket grocery price comparison app will list groceries from digital grocer RedMart, part of the Lazada e-commerce platform.
This brings the number of products available for comparison on Price Kaki to over 5,500.
RedMart is the first online grocery store featured on the app. Previously, it only listed groceries from major supermarket chains like FairPrice, Sheng Shiong, Giant, and Prime.
RedMart will provide an initial list of 100 frequently purchased daily essentials and groceries for comparison, including food staples like eggs, rice and milk.
“This is the first time that the prices of products sold online have been shown on Price Kaki and it will make it easier for consumers to compare the prices of basic necessities sold on their online store with those sold in retail stores. physical,” said Consumer Association of Singapore (Cas) president Melvin Yong.
He added that Case will also work with other supermarket chains to bring products sold in their online retail stores onto the app. They aim to increase the products listed on Price Kaki to 10,000 by the end of the year.
Lazada Singapore’s managing director, Loh Wee Lee, said RedMart, and by extension Lazada’s broader platform, has “a responsibility to provide affordable groceries and basic necessities to Singaporeans.” in the face of growing global uncertainties about day-to-day costs.
He added: “The onset of inflation and rising global food prices are straining consumer finances in Singapore and through this partnership we hope to help cushion the impact.”
Mr. Yong and Mr. Loh signed a memorandum of understanding at RedMart’s West Fulfillment Center in Jurong on Thursday. The signing took place in the presence of the Minister of State for Trade and Industry, and Culture, Community and Youth, Low Yen Ling.
Price Kaki was developed by Case and launched in 2019. Since its launch, it has been downloaded over 90,000 times.
Ms. Low said the addition of RedMart to the Price Kaki platform enables consumers to make better, informed choices that best suit their budgets and needs.
She said, “Having a wide range of price comparisons at your fingertips anytime, anywhere makes everyday product shopping easier and shoppers more savvy. This encourages retailers and merchants to stay competitive with transparent pricing which, in turn, builds trust and loyalty among their customers. “
She also urged more retailers and merchants to work with Case to list their products on the app.
