Digital Hunting Tags Now Available on the Texas Parks & Wildlife App

AUSTIN— Never worry about forgetting a Super Combo paper license at home again with the new digital label Texas Department of Parks and Wildlife (TPWD) option. Beginning with the 2022-23 license year, Texas residents can purchase a Super Combo Digital License (Sections 111, 117, and 990) which will allow digital tagging of harvested oversized deer, turkey, and red drum. The digital license option is available via purchase online onlywhen the licenses go on sale on August 15.

A digital license holder will not receive a license or printed labels, but must keep their digital license available in the field. The license can be viewed through the TPWD Exterior Annual and My Hunting Harvest in Texas (MTHH) mobile apps.

“Texas Parks and Wildlife is excited to offer a digital license and tag option for the first time for outdoor men and women this year,” said Carter Smith, executive director of TPWD. “We are testing this with the Super Combo license types, one of our most popular licenses that we sell. Lifetime Combo license holders will also be able to use the digital tagging portion of this pilot. It’s been a long time coming, but we think it’s a great first step in providing more options for our hunters and anglers in the field. We intend to evaluate how well this works as we move forward and look forward to feedback from our customers who choose this option.

Texans using this option will need to meet these requirements to use the Super Combo number tag:

  • Digital tagging of harvested oversized deer, turkeys and red drums must be done through the MTHH mobile app. An updated version of the app supporting digital tagging will be available on August 15.
  • Digital licensees are not exempt from the Federal Duck Stamp requirement. If you purchase a Federal Duck Stamp, it will be mailed to your registered address. The stamp must be signed on the front and must be on you while waterfowl hunting.
  • Other license purchases made for this season (e.g. Annual Public Hunt, Federal Sandhill Crane Permit, Bonus Red Drum Tag, etc.) will be provided in digital format only and will appear as separate items on your digital license.
  • The number and type of tags issued with digital licenses are limited by species. A full list can be found at digital label web page on the TPWD website. All county bag limits, special provisions and restrictions apply. The execution of a digital tag serves to complete the mandatory harvest report for deer and turkeys in the affected counties.
  • It is your responsibility to track beacon usage. Use the Harvest History section in MTHH and make sure your app is in sync. Do not harvest an animal unless you are sure you have a tag available to use.

More information on harvest reports and physical documentation required for deer and turkeys, as well as harvest report requirements for red drum, can be found on the digital tag webpage at

Hunting and fishing regulations for the 2022-23 season will be available online at and on the Annual Outdoor Mobile App . The mobile app is free and, once downloaded, works without an internet connection, making it easy for hunters and anglers to view regulations even in the most remote locations. Other features include license search, location-based features such as “Hunting Seasons and Regulations by Location”, “Where to Fish”, etc. Additionally, the Outdoor Annual website provides the ability to download and print all or selected sections of the Outdoor Annual.
